Social Networking For Corporate Ireland?

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Here’s a chance for Corporate Ireland to use Social Networking, by joining MyRagan.com, “the meeting place for communicators from around the world. ”

You can use the site to:

–Find communicators who share your interests;
–Create real and virtual networking groups–even groups in your own hometown;
–Solve problems and answer tough questions about your job;
–Query Ragan editors and management about any issue of your choosing;
– Download free reports on everything from Social Media to measurement.

For anyone in Ireland involved in International Trade or Services,  this could be a network worth joining. While at first the membership appears to be U.S.A. based, I soon found members from Australia, Denmark, The U.K and with only 13 members from Ireland, this is an underutilized tool here.

Joining was easy, and building your profile is straight forward, I even recognized an Irish member

Opportunities for Irish Entrepreneur Programmers.

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

With the news that MySpace has opened up to third-party developers, the opportunities for Irish Entrepreneur Programmers have taken another promising step. While programming is not something I know much about, due to the fact that I last “programmed” on a commodore 64 :) , I’m well informed about social networks

If new and existing social networks stay with this trend, I think that there is a huge opportunity for Irish Entrepreneur Programmers, to not only get in on the expanding openings to work with some big names, but also to be catapulted from obscurity onto the main third-party developers stage.

The first meet up for MySpace is due to happen on February 5th in San Francisco and seems to be invitation only but it’s only a matter of time before the doors open .

Yabb, a Vocal Social Network

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I managed to get an invite to join (beta), a new Social Network project by Bebo co-founder, Paul Birch. According to Yabb, “yabb lets you talk more and type less by connecting you with people and topics you’re interested in”

How it works

1. Find a conversation topic of interest to you
2. Pick someone with interesting thoughts who has joined that topic
3. Send them a call request by ‘asking them to Skype you’

They can now call you over Skype. While you wait, you can join other topics, add your thoughts and send more call requests.

Information above taken from About Yabb © 2008 yabb ltd

You can sign-up to register your interest and they’ll mail you once they’re accepting more participants.

I spent an hour on the site after joining and I liked what I saw. It’s not what people are familiar with, if you spend time on sites like Facebook, you will find Yabb far less distracting. It’s very slimmed down, so it does the job it was made for very well.

I was able to get to grips with it very quickly and I’ll be putting it on my list of sites I visit daily.
I see a huge potential for Yabb in 2008.

There is also a short interview with Paul Birch, by Paul Walsh in his blog.

P.S. Thanks Paul Walsh for making it easy to post to my blog today.
