I just read this on eBookers news section, Aer Arann are launching a frequent flyer’s club, called ” Silver Club” on invitation only basis, for customers the airline considers loyal.
The article says that apart from several existing advantages, the Silver Club members of Aer Arann will have;
- Access to a business lounge in Cork and Dublin airports.
- A special recognition at check-in.
- The best seats on the aircraft.
- An extra check-in baggage allowance of 25kgs.
- A designated telephone number.
- And an exclusive booking section on AerArann.com
Will Aer Arann be giving Ryan Air a run for their money in the not too distant future ?
I think they will, especially if they listen to complaints about Ryan Air and use that information to improve Aer Arann.

With the news that MySpace has opened up to third-party developers, the opportunities for Irish Entrepreneur Programmers have taken another promising step. While programming is not something I know much about, due to the fact that I last “programmed” on a commodore 64
, I’m well informed about social networks
If new and existing social networks stay with this trend, I think that there is a huge opportunity for Irish Entrepreneur Programmers, to not only get in on the expanding openings to work with some big names, but also to be catapulted from obscurity onto the main third-party developers stage.
The first meet up for MySpace is due to happen on February 5th in San Francisco and seems to be invitation only but it’s only a matter of time before the doors open .

I managed to get an invite to join Yabb (beta), a new Social Network project by Bebo co-founder, Paul Birch. According to Yabb, “yabb lets you talk more and type less by connecting you with people and topics you’re interested in”
How it works
1. Find a conversation topic of interest to you
2. Pick someone with interesting thoughts who has joined that topic
3. Send them a call request by ‘asking them to Skype you’
They can now call you over Skype. While you wait, you can join other topics, add your thoughts and send more call requests.
Information above taken from About Yabb © 2008 yabb ltd
You can sign-up to register your interest and they’ll mail you once they’re accepting more participants.
I spent an hour on the site after joining and I liked what I saw. It’s not what people are familiar with, if you spend time on sites like Facebook, you will find Yabb far less distracting. It’s very slimmed down, so it does the job it was made for very well.
I was able to get to grips with it very quickly and I’ll be putting it on my list of sites I visit daily.
I see a huge potential for Yabb in 2008.
There is also a short interview with Paul Birch, by Paul Walsh in his blog.
P.S. Thanks Paul Walsh for making it easy to post to my blog today.

The Irish Times has awarded (edit:) Featured Paul Walsh, (the Irish Opportunist), in “The Best Blog Of The Week” for his Personal Blog.
Update: I just read on Paul’s blog that ” It was featured in Blogspot of the week, which I’m just as happy with.” Even so, the rest of my post stands.
I’ve been a regular reader of Paul’s personal and business blogs for many months and I’m delighted to see him get recognition for something he does very well.
If you have an interest in Social Media, Web 2.0 or Ireland in 2008, this is a blob blog to check in on daily.
